Nibeenabe DRAM Project Portrait

Geomine Consulting Group collaborated with Nibeenabe in August 2026 to assess the potential suitability of DRAM technology for Kenya’s artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector. The project explored how innovative metal-remediation and recovery technologies could respond to environmental challenges associated with mine water, tailings, wastewater and mining waste.

The field assessment was led by Eng. William together with Eng. Lilian, who collected data across mining areas and their surrounding environments. Particular attention was given to nearby streams, river courses, mine-water discharge points and wastewater pathways, helping the team understand how mining activities interact with local water systems and where remediation technologies could potentially be applied.

Supported by desktop research and field evidence, the project demonstrates Geomine’s capacity in mining technology evaluation, environmental field assessment and sustainable mining solutions across Africa. By connecting technology developers with local mining expertise and real operating environments, Geomine helps translate emerging technologies into solutions relevant to African mining context.

Story Image 3

In the final days of June 2026, the Geomine team undertook a focused mineral sampling and metallurgical technical visit across selected areas of Taita Taveta County. The exercise involved geological mapping, preparation of sampling points, GPS-guided navigation, and collection of representative mineral samples for laboratory and metallurgical evaluation.

Guided by a qualified geologist, the exercise aimed not only to obtain the right mineral samples, but also to sharpen the team’s practical skills in standard operating procedures for sampling across wide and varied ground. Emphasis was placed on sample integrity, traceability, and maintaining representative coverage across each area of collection.

The work also involved the use of key field tools, including GPS, LiDAR survey equipment, RTK positioning, geological hammers, mattocks, and shovels, creating a stronger technical basis for mineral evaluation, metallurgical testing, and future value-addition decisions.

Underground Survey Mapping in ASM Mines – Rongo, Migori County, May 2026

Story Image 3

In May 2026, Geomine, in collaboration with Multiflow Geoconsult Services (MGS), conducted a trailblazing underground survey-mapping exercise at an ASM site in Rongo, Migori County, aimed at improving mine planning, safety, access, and ore movement for gold and gemstone mining communities. The work combined total station survey data, geological reef orientation, shaft and drive inspection, and technical review of access routes, raises, and mine connections. This created a stronger basis for production planning, safer underground movement, reduced operational inefficiencies, and better ore flow management.

The exercise demonstrated that ASM mines can generate bankable technical data while mining is ongoing, supporting improved spatial organization, investor confidence, operational control, and a practical modernization pathway for small-scale mines from the ground up.

Graphite Mine Reconnaissance Geological Appraisal –Taita Taveta County (February 2026)

Story Image 3

In February, Geomine undertook a reconnaissance and geological assessment at local mines in Taita Taveta to evaluate graphite potential alongside existing gemstone operations and define a practical pathway for exploration and development.

The work combined a desktop review of regional geology with field reconnaissance across mineralised zones, inspection of active and historical workings, and assessment of graphite occurrences in host rock and tsavorite mine waste. Initial samples were collected for laboratory analysis to guide future processing decisions.

Preliminary observations confirmed favourable geological conditions for graphite within the Mozambique Belt, with additional potential for iron and titanium, establishing a technical basis for exploration, metallurgical testing, and future investment planning.

Geological Assessment Mine Reconnaissance - Isulu Village, Kakamega (January 2026)

Story Image 3

Geomine conducted a targeted geological assessment and mine reconnaissance to help landowners understand the mineral potential of their land through structured, evidence-based geology.

The assignment combined a desktop review of regional geological data with a three-day field visit involving selective trenching, assessment of two shafts and one open pit near a river system, and controlled collection of ten representative samples for laboratory assaying.

The work confirmed mineralised structures and improved confidence in subsurface continuity. It delivered assay-backed insights to support informed decisions on small-scale mining, further exploration, or investment—replacing speculation with clear geological understanding.

Mine Reconnaissance Geological Appraisal - Kiambere Ward (Kiangunguru), Embu County (January 2026)

Story Image 1 Story Image 2
Story Image 3

Geomine conducted a mine reconnaissance and geological appraisal in Kiambere Ward as part of its 2026 Mine Reconnaissance Program, focusing on areas with known but underexplored mineral potential. The work involved field-based geological observations and engagement with miners and local communities to assess host rock controls and structural indicators.

The area hosts complex geology with mica, feldspar, gemstones, and coltan (columbite–tantalite), with feldspar identified as the dominant host rock and associated mineralisation including beryllium, aquamarine, mica, and coltan across multiple zones.

The appraisal strengthened geological understanding and supported informed exploration and responsible mineral development decisions.

Small-Scale Gold Operations Investment Guidance - Nyatike Subcounty, Migori (November 2025)
